Miiy 21 was the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of the Church of St. Mark at Wellington, which in that period has shown a remarkable record of .progress, and good’ work. The first | office-bearers included Mr R. C. Hainerton, one of the vestry. Mr Hamerton was a member of one of the best-known Taranaki families. The first incumbent was the Rev. E. H. Grainger, who was succeeded in 1876 'by the Rev. Richard Coffey, who eontinned ill office till his death in 1907. 'Amongst, the many important works originating in St. Mark’s was the establishment of the first school under the Anglican Church School Board, formed in 1916. by which endowments were granted, as financial assistance to newlv-formcd church schools.
