A YOUTH’S ACT.
THREW BOTTLE AT ENGINE. PALMERSTON NORTH INCIDENT. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., May 20. At the Police Court, a youth whose name was ordered to be isuppressed, pleaded guilty and. was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on a charge'on April sof hurling bottles at the engine of the incoming! evening train, from Napier. The police evidence was to the effect that the accused made a statement admitting throwing a. bottle at the engine. Another youth, aged 15, and lie, after attending an entertainment on tile night of the occurrence, procured 14 bottles of beer from the licensee of a hotel. They had been near Terrace Street intersection when the train approached. Having consumed four bottles each, both, were in a states of intoxication, and decided to throw a bottle that was broken at the engine. This had been done by the accused, who in conclusion denied that he had any connection with the attempts to derail trains. The remaining bottles of beer wgie consumed later. A,ski no that the name of the hotel whence the beer had been procured be suppressed, the police stated that a prosecution was pending.
