The Associated Colliery Proprietors have issued a statement that the proprietors are determined to stand by the principle involved whatever the outcome of the engine-drivers’ and firemen’s strike. It adds that eihte.r the industry isi to have independent arbitration and the peaceful settlement of claims and disputes or have industrial chaos, and concludes: “The strikers rejected the -award of tha Coal Tribunal, and one thousand) strikers have thrown 30,000 workers idle. There will be no backing down by the colliery proprietors. ’ ’
