TARANAKI MEN’S ASSOCIATION. HAWERA CLUB WITHDRAWN. Owing to the Haw era Men A Hockey Club being unable to field a team to play in the Thursday fixtures the club has decided to withdraw from this season ’is competition. This decision was finally reached by the Hiawera Oluib when, in reply to the club’ representations that it would : be impassable to arrange for _ teams: to play on Thursday is, the association advised that the fixtures drawn up were passed as read at a largely attended: meeting of the management committee and delegates of all affiliated cluibs except Hiawera. Referring to the selection of the Taranaki representatives to play the Indian Army team, the association advised in the same letter that, as the Hlaavena Club could not play on Thursdays, the selectors could see little use in travelling to Hawera to choose players far a game which would take place on a, Thursday. To this the Hiawera Club replied intimating dissatisfaction with the attitude adopted by the asso cation and the selectors in particular, the reason for not seeing the Hawera. players in action being considered very feeble. The letter further stated that the difficulty of making any alteration in the competition fixtures was recognised by the Hiawera Club, which would, however, be compelled, in consequence, to withdraw from the competition. This, tlie-letter added, was solely on account of the impossibility of playing the matches as drawn and not because of itlhe dissatisfaction previously meufcionecl.
