MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) NOVELTY BALL. The popularity of the Manaia novelty ball was well manifested on Wednesday evening by the very large attendance from all parts of South Taranaki. The hall was beautifully decorated with a great variety of coloured streamers, which radiated from a lovely decorated dome attached to the ceiling in the centre of the hall. Dainty shower bouquets hung from the ceiling enhanced the effect. The decorations in this department were well planned and arranged by Miss S. Le-win and her committee. The stage presented a charming appearance, being decorated with an assortment of greenery, flowers and shrubs, and tastefuliy grouped. This department was in the hands of Misses Lewin. Hastie, H. Judd, E. Lloyd, N. and D. Hotter. The supper room was beautifully decorated with a greatvariety of coloured streamers and coloured ’ lights. The tables were artistically decorated with the addition of bonbons and balloons, besides (lowers and greenery: these were in the hands of Misses Llovd, Pveo, M. White. C. Vine, and Messrs J. A. Hansen. P. Mullins and other helpers. A sumptuous supper was provided by the ladies’ committee, comprising Mesdames J. A. Hansen, Lewin. J. Dakers.. E. Vine. T. Dee. W. Kerr. W. Hill, and the Mi sses Hill, "Franklin, and Cassidy. The floor was in capital order, and McDonald’s Orchestra provided appreciated music. Extras were ulaved by Mrs A. McCracken. Miss AT. Hausen and Mr Mullins. The duties of M’s.C. were ably carried out bv Messrs J. A. Hansen, L. Hughes and S. Blair. The following were .the winners of the different novelty dances: Snot schottisahe. Mr Miller and Miss McCormick : Monte Carlo dance. G. Andrews and Miss A T . Griffin: balloon dance. Miss Hausen and partner: hatdance. Miss Clarke (ladies). Mr L. Hughes (gentlemen). Snecia-1 credit is due to the energetic secretary (Miss S. Lewin) for the very able manner in which she carried out her many duties, and the committee for the general arrangements. The hall was without douht a most- enioyable one. The ladies and- committee wsh to thank all who assisted, especiallv Messrs E. Lloyd and T. Hair and Mrs Aferrie. FARMERS’ DEBATE. All members and the public are invited to attend the debate, “Does it oav to .plough in Manaia district?” to be held at the Manaia Farmers’ Union meeting on Saturday night at 8 o’clock at Waimate West County Chambers. The honours of the debate will be well contested bv leading farmers of South Taranaki."
