ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) GUIDES AND SCOUTS. The combined Guides and Scouts committee met last evening, Mr I. J. Bridger presiding. The scoutmaster (Mr J. Rogers) reported that the troop was working steadily and making good progress with the various crafts. " Troop-Sergeant Cooper and Patrol-Leader Potts were recommended to be raised to the position of assistant scoutmasters. Arrangements had been made with the superintendent of the fire brigade, Mr H. Nutting, to give instruction in fire fighting methods, when it was hoped that many would qualify for the fireman’s badge. The report was received and the two appointments as assistant scoutmaster was approved. Air E. L. Furby, general secretary of the Scout movement, wrote stating that General Andrew, Dominion Chief Commissioner, reported to the Dominion Executive that he had found scouting affairs in Eltliam very satisfactory indeed, and the troop was most efficient. —The letter was received. Airs Foord, captain of the Girl Gnidcs, reported that regular weekly meetings were being held and members of the company were very anxious to get through all their tests. In addition to the weekly parade, she had instituted a hobby class for the teaching of homecraft, and the girls are keenly interested. The Brownies will in future meet on Saturday afternoons, until after the winter.— I The report was received. It was decided to request the follow: ing to accept seats on the committee: Mr and Mrs Gower, Mr and] Mrs Townsend, Air and Airs At. Burke, and Air Helmcr. The captain of the Guides was authorised to procure a number of hats for the Guides'.
