SHIPMENT OF APPLES.
NELSON CELEBRATES A RECORD. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NELSON, May 17. The apple shipment record, which was broken by the Port Hardy, which lifted 73,000 cases of apples at Nelson, the largest quantity sent away from here in one shipment, and also a record for New Zealand, was marked by a largely-attended and most enthusiastic citizens-’ dinner -on Saturday evening, presided over by Mr H. Atmore, M.P., in honour of the officials and officers of the vessel. It was most successful, and' was the most representative gathering held at Nelson for many years. Thle Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. 0. J. Ha-wken), Mr de Gruchv (manager of the Commonwealth and Dominion Co.), and Captain Hollis ■ (marine superintendent) were among those present. Reference wax made to the fact that the vessel discharged 1400 tons and loaded 73,000 oases of apples in under,three days. This was due to the hearty and loyal co-operation, of all concerned. Nelson up to date has exported over 400,000 eases of apples this season.
