The Prime Minister (lit. Hon. J. G. Coates) returned to Wellington from South, vesterday. He stated that probably no announcement regarding Cabinet reconstruction would be made until next week. “There is something more important than that in hand,” he said, referring to the British strike. Asked when Parliament would meet, the Prime Minister said it would probably be a little earlier than usual, but he would not indicate whether this meant June 10, the date to which it was .prorogued, or not.

At the monthly meeting of the Manaia Town Board last evening Mr J. Hickey was re-appointed as the board’s representative on th© southern committee of the Egmont National Park Board.

The Australian Meat Export Company has been awarded the frozen meat contract for the Mediterranean, states a London cable message.

Members of the South Taranaki Automobile Association are reminded of the run to Dawson Falls on Sunday next under the auspices of the association. Cars at Hawera will assemble at the post office at 1 pan., at Patea at 12.30 p.m., at Stratford, Eltham, Manaia and Opunake at ■ 1 o’clock. They will all meet at the Mountain House for afternoon tea, and during the afternoon a short address will be given on the work of the association. Members who are intending to take the trip are asked to advise Mr Walkley, Hawera, secretary to the association, as early as possible, so that he may he able to make arrangements at the accommodation house. A message from there to Mr Walkley to-day stated, that the track was in fine order, the weather ideal and looking settled, and the view this morning from the house was wonderful.

A conference is sitting in Wellington to consider the waterside disputes at Lyttelton. Some months ago the employers agreed to advance the rates of pay of the watersiders by lid per hour, on condition that they should work on Saturday afternoons. The matter was referred to a ballot of .thg waterside unions throughout New Zealand, and all the unions agreed to accept the condition, with the exception of that at Lyttelton. The result was that the increase was not paid to the Lyttelton watersiders,' and since then there have been several stoppages of work at that port. Just recently the matter reached a head, and. it was decided to hold a confeience in Wellington. Proposals were submitted by the representatives of the men, hut there is no information vet as to the result.

A final .reminder is given of the catholic ball to be held at Ka-p-uni this evening. Thits foall. which is in .yid of the new convent school at Manaia, has occupied the attention of an energetic committee fo.r some time, and elaborate preparations for an enjoyable- evening have been made.

Auroa residents -are .reminded of the school concert which will he held tonight. The first part of the programme will consist of some- very pretty items given by the junior scholars., The latter part will be a. rollicking Christie Min-st-rel show given by the senior hoys assisted ;in -the -singing -by the girls. A final reminder is given of the dance to be held this (Friday) evening in the Whareroa Hall under the auspices of the Football Club.
