Several days were spent in discussing the subject, which one speaker declared was “the bugaboo of all wives of the salariat.” She subsequently explained that “salariat” meant people who drew salary as distinct from wages-—tlie middle classes. Finally the following budget was adopted as the ideal: One-fourth of the month’s salary for the monthly rent. One-fifth for food. One-sixteentli for light and heat. One-sixteenth for laundry. One-tentli for clothing. One-tenth for the “rainy day.” One-tenth for recreation. The remainder for insurance and minor odd expenses. Alnny of the delegates to the. Convention expressed the determination to trv this budget out for six months.
