A lady tourist who has just returned to Wellington from a visit‘"to South Westland expresses surprise that the Fox Glacier, immediately south of the famour Franz Josef, is ignored, in. view of the liberal publicity given to the attractions of the latter. “The Franz Josef,” she says, “is a wonderful sight, and is quite entitled to the publicity it gets, but why is the beautiful Fox never heard of?” The lady expressed herself as enraptured with the scenery of Southern Westland, paxticularlv south of the Franz Josef Glacier. The Fox, she -pointed out, is only twelve miles south of the- Franz Josef, and is reached by a well-oon-structed road passing- through exquisite- scenery. “The Fox Glacier forms 'a carpet up to the tliroue of Mount Cook” on the Westland side, and makes, with its wonderful natural environs, one of the finest scenes in the Dominion. " .' The practice of mothers taking their babies to bed with them;, was adversely commented upon by. Mr; F. K, Hunt, S.M., at Auckland,, at- the _ inquest concerning the death of., at baby girl who was found dead in bed beside her mother. “It is a bad: practice, and is practically condemned now, 55 -‘the coroner said. “It is a long time since we have had a case of this. kind. Mothers should not take tombed with them:” The mother stated that when she went to sleep the baby was resting on her arm. During the night ■t slipped off, and she.found the child dead in the morning.
