DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL.
(To ,tlie Editor.) Sir, —Will you please publish' the following answers of the directorate of the Hawera Dairy Company to certain questions askdpl by Mr. Murdo Mackenzie in a letter appearing in Monday’s Star: 1. Are they (the directors of the Hawera Dairy Company) in favour of the producer getting his own right, namely, the right to exercise his own vote instead' of vesting it in the hands of directors? . Answer. —The directorate favours the election of the Dairy Control Board by means of a tonnage vote exercised by the producers themselves. 2. Are they in favour of the Control Board exercising its power to prohibit the producer from doing what he wishes with the fruits of his own labour? or are we to be told ‘‘we are here to work, not to • think?” Answer. —The Control Board decided a year ago to exercise (as from August next) the power of ‘‘absolute control” given to it under the Daily Control Act, which reached the statute book on the producers’ vote, and the question of absolute control was not part of the business of the recent conference, although it was brought up informally at the conclusion of the ordinary business. Dairy company directorates have not been asked, nor have they had an opportunity, to vote for control or freedom in marketing, consequently the Hawera Dairy Company directorate has not taken a vote on the question. The expression of opinion on this question at any of the meetings which have been held in this province has been by means of the votes of the individual producers present at such meetings. —I am, etc., G. A. DUNCAN, Secretary, Hawer-a Co-op, Dairy Factory Co. Ltd.
