PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr. Claude O. Moss, who- for the past two years bias been manager of the Hawera branch of Messrs Johnston and 00., Ltd., lias received notice of his transfer to the head office on pitmotion. During his residence in Hawera, Air. Mess has actively interested himself in local organisations and he will 'be very much missed, especially in musical circles. Hie is an active member of the Hiawera. Male Choir, one of the founders and secretary of the Hiawera Savage Club, and a member of the Ha.wera Rotary Club, Golf Club-, Ohamlber of Oommer.ee, South Taranaki Automobile Association, -and Egmojit Racing Club. His musical talent- has always been cheerfully given to assist any worthy cause, /and by his departure Ha.wera will lose one of its most -popular younger citizens. Air. Moss, expects to leave Hiawera. for Wellington by the end of the month, Air. L. A. Eastman, of Raetihi, has just received his appointment as an apostle of Ria-tana. The appointment is unique in its way, as Air. Eastman is the first pakeha. appointed in the whole of the Dominion. The appointment was made at the express wish of the King Country natives, and a- petition -signed by them was forwarded to Ratana for consideration. Air. Eastman has been connected with the movement for the past twelve months. -He did voluntary work’ for the Anglican Maori Mission at Pipiriki, and afterwards started services for the natives at Raetihi. At first difficulty was experienced owing to the natives demanding the* Ratana teaching. After consideration Mr. Eastman decided to accede to their request. The movement has two trained native nurses, who have done good work among the natives of the district.
