V VILLAGES INUNDATED LOSS OF LIFE REPORTED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, April 28. Reuter’s Moscow correspondent states that the upper tributaries of the Volga overflowed their banks, and the River Khenna flooded the town of Orskhova. Eight persons were drowned and eleven bridges were destroyed, while many textile mills were rendered idle. Loss of life is also reported at Rybinsk, where the Volga is 50ft above its usual level. Scores of villages are flooded and inhabitants have taken refuge on roofs. Detachments of the Red Army are blowing up ice jambs in the rivers in order to allow the waters to flow in their natural course.
