SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
EGAIONT ALEETING CONCLUDED.
The Egmont Sheep Dog Trial Club’s meeting concluded to-day, when the remainder of competitors in the huntaway event put in their runs. In this class a fair number of dogs was scratched, to enable owners from a distance to return home. The meeting has been drawn out longer than was expected, in consequence of the large number of entries received, with the result that calculations have been somewhat upset. Details: — Class 4. —Huntaway. Distance about 400 yards, between three sets of flags Points: Huntaway 18, noise 9, style 0, command 12; total 45. \Y. A’. Doole’s “Gyp,” 10—G —4—12 (38) 5 At the end of this event Air J. R. Corrigan gave a first-class exhibition run with his dog “Rag,” 9 years of age, and a former runner in the North island, championship, in which he finished second. It wa.s a splendid demon stratum :cf “teaching the young idea to shoot.” JUDGE’S. NOTES. “Donald 31 nice.” —Hunted well through first and second ffajgs; gave them a good lift to. third, which made them go through freely; dog under good command. “Rock.”—Hunted in good line through first and very good work to second and third) flags; good noise and command.
“Rafferty.”—Del sheep off line to right before reaching first flag; recovered and did fair work to second flag; good style and noisy. “Wag.”- —Hunted fairly well through all flags; very good command; stood up ta his sheep very well. “Gyp:”—One sheep split at start; got them through first and second flags; good noise and command; good line.
The judge, Mr. C. Davis, remarked to a Star representative that very good work had been shown by the majority of the dogs. The sheep provided and the conduct, of the meeting were excellent, while a broad fellowship had characterised the gathering. ' WINNERS OF CUPS. Challenge cups were won as follows: Tongahoe Cup, value lt> guineas; lor maiden dog scoring most points in classes 11. /and 111. —J. H.. Nairn's “Swift,” 99 points. Bennett and Sutton Cup', value o guineas; for dog scoring most points in classes H and HI. —M. M. Scott’s “Swift,” IDS points. Mr. Scott wins this cup outright. Scott Challenge Cup, value 8 guineas, for dog scoring most points in 01/ass IV. W. V. Mclntyre’s “Donald Bruce,” 44 points. SPECIAL PRIZES.
Special prize-winners were : J. Lind’s special of £1 Is, for novice scoring most points in class I.—E. Wells’ “Sweep,” 38 points. H. R. Scott’s special of £1 Is, for runner-up to foregoing.—E. Death's “Diarkie,” 34 points. The second judging, was won by Mr. J. Syme, who recorded the exact weight. 721/bs. The committee desires specially to thank Mr. D. Wills for his services to the club.
