NEW GUINEA PLANTATIONS.
TENDERS REVIEWED MANY TO BE ACCEPTED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 11.15 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, April 23. Referring to the tenders received for the first group of expropriated properties in. New Guinea, the Federal Prime Minister. Mr S. M. Bruce, said that three tenders were .received for the whole of the prep.’rties, and 322 for individual -'ones. These tenders came from GO persons or companies, of whem 54 were Australian soldiers. As tenders. for a number of individual, properties were satisfactory, and as it appeared that the best interests of the territory would be served bv the establishment of many plantation owners, Cabinet had decided to r.ject all three tenders submitted for the properties as a whole. tenders, numbering about twenty, will be accepted where the tender eouals or exceeds the official valuation. Other tenders who approximate the valuation will be negotiated with. In all 46 plantations were offered, and for 43 of these tenders .were received. 'Die purchase money for the 20 plantations likelv to l>e sold amounts to £201.510. Eighty-seven trading stations are also offering. and tenders are to be accepted for 47 of them.
