Last evening’s benefit concert tendered by the exhibition directors to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders’ band, realised £792, providing a gjLflt of over £2O to each of the 39 players.

FEILDING, April 22,
A man about 55 years of age, name unknown, wa,s found on the side of a road near Feilding this morning with a bullet wound- in his head. A pearifle was found lying alongside him. A note was found in-a pocket which suggested that he had attempted to commit, .suicide. The man was still living when lie was removed to the hospital. He stated that lie was an Australian, hut had no friends and no means. PALMERSTON N., April 22.
The man who was found on the highway near Feilding this morning with a bullet wound in his head died in the Palmertson North Hospital shortly after noon. AIOTOR CAR. DESTROYED. GORE. April 22. Mr. W. P. Hailes, of Balfour, when driving home by car last night a. rear tyre burst. The application of the brakes caused the vehicle to capsize. The six people who were aboard scrambled out and immediately afterwards the car, which was a Chrysler six, exploded. A fire followed, reducing the machine to ashes. All passengers escaped without- injury.
