CROQUET.

HAWERA CLUB

CLOSING DAT OF SEASON. 1 -"The glorious weather that attended all outdoor events on Saturday favoured the Hawera. Croquet Club in it; closing function for the season 192526, which took place in the presence of a large number of members, visitors from the Park. Club, and friends of players. The result was that a most interesting and enjoyable day was spent by all, a fitting finale to a season which is considered to have been one of the best the club has ever had. The official closing was fittingly performed by Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P., who complimented the club on its success during the season and the, very pleasant day they were having for the closing. He referred to the high standard of play shown during the season, and hoped that- the game would go ahead still more and. shew in the coining season a still greater progress than in the past. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The prizes were then presented by Mrs j. M. Collins, wife of the president of the club. The list was as below: Champion singles: Mrs B. C. Bennett-; runner-up, Mrs,, Bull. A grade handicap singles: Mrs Bull; runner-up, Mrs Suisted. B grade handicap singles: Mrs Msl- - runner-up, Mrs A. E. Wills. A grade handicap doubles: Mrs T. Campbell and! Mrs Bull. B grade doubles!-. Mrs Milrov and Mrs Harrop. Combined A and - B doubles —Mrs Bull and Mrs Harrop. The winners of competitions during tlio closing day were: Golf croquet Miss Hay Mackenzie; progressive competitions —A, Miss Sutton; B, Mrs A D. Murdock (Park); French croquet. Miss Power (going round hoops in fifteen).. After the presentation, Mr Dickie, oil behalf of the. members, expressed the appreciation of the club to Mrs Bilton and Miss White ,for their good work asi lion, secretaries of the club — the former during the latter half, and Missi White in trie early part of the season/ He then presented, as a token of the members'’ esteem, a handsome Gouda war bowl to* Mrs Bilton and a box of handkerchiefs for Miss White.

A very pretty bouquet, made by Mrs C. H. Washer, was presented to Mrs Collins bv Mrs Suisted. a compliment, which was very popular and . well received. Mrs Billon, on behalf of all members, expressed to Mr Collins Their appreciation of his work, and said all hoped he would long remain in the position of president;, because ho had done so much for the club and for croquet in Hawera.

It was a general tea clay, and the dainty tea. put on by members .was much appreciated by all. Hearty cheers were given for Messrs Collins and Dickie,, and after the singing of “For they are jolly good fellows,” a very pleasant and interesting dav ‘ terminated.
