MENT. CONVERSATION WITH WILKINS’ EXPEDITION. tBY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 AUCKLAND, April 19. The Aucklander who has been in wireloss communication with Captain Wilkins’ Arctic expedition in Alaska is Mr C. N. Edwards, of Point Chevalier. Ho picked up a call of Lieut. Messer, of U.S.A., signal correspondent, at 9.15 on Monday night on a wave length of S 3 meters, the receiver being the ordinary short wave two valve type. Thougn atmospherics were had, Lieut. Messer and Mr Edwards conversed in Morse for an. hour without a single repetition being necessary. Lieut. Messer reported the Auckland signals as being strong, Mr Edwards has an aerial which is only E 6 feet high. On Wednesday evening Lieut. Messer and Mr Edwards had a clear conversation in Morse for two and a half hours. Some months ago Mr Edwards obtained communication with the Ross Sea whaling expedition in the Antarctic.
