SUBSTANTIAL GIFT.

RETIRING MINISTER AROUSED. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.; HASTINGS, April 17. The Rev. D. Ramsay, who is retiring after 36 years of service, was met by a large gathering of St. Andrew’s parishioners last night and presented with £SOO which had been raised by parishioners to be paifl in yearly instalments of £IOO, to supplement his retiring allowance. Mr. Ramsay, in acknowledging the gift, said that Presbyterianism must wake up. It was shameful to put a man who had givon his life to faithful sendee on retirement at an alowancel of £136 per annum. What was £136 yearly to a man with a family, esspecially at the present rate of living? He thanked them for that out of their own generosity they were not allowing him to be dependent on his retiring allowance for five'years.
