UNIVERSITY DEBATE AT WELLINGTON. (by TELEGRAPH —PREBB ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, April IG. A large audience at the Town Hall listened, to the debate in which three representatives of British universities, Mr Molson (Oxford), Mr McDonald (Edinburgh) and Mr Reed (London), took part with Messrs Hurley, Davidson and Martin Smith (Victoria College). The subject was a “That this House views with concern the present tendencies towards the disruption of the Empire. ” The visitors treated the subject in a more workmanlike manner, their speeches showing better finish than those of the local men. Messrs Molson, Hurley and McDonald took up the affirmative, but failed to impress the audience with their arguments, the motion being defeated by a small margin.
