Out of fifty applicants for the position of librarian at the Dunedin Athenaeum, Mr. Herbert Greenwood, of Adelaide, has been appointed.-' Press Assn.
The death is announced from Sydney of Mr Frank 1 red ate, a former international cricketer, and until recently secretary of the New South Hales Cricket "Association. He was G 3 years of age.
At the usual meeting of the Manaia Town Board a motion was carried expressing deep sympathy with Mr. J. A. G. Cosgrove in the death oi ins brother. The motion was carried in silence, members standing a few moments in respect to his memory. Lieut. P. A. Turner, the survivor of the aeroplane crash in which two lives were lost at Papanui, on March 17 is still in the Christchurch Hospital,, hut he is able to receive visitors and walk in the grounds.
At the annual meeting of the Mokoia Settlers’ Association a resolution was passed expressing sympathy with Mr. George Qooper in his illness and wishing him a speedy recovery. Mr. Cooper one of the hardest working members of the association, has been laid up for some time, but is now making progress towards good health.
