S. JOHN’S CHURCH.

WELCOME TO' DEACONESS

St. John’s Presbyterian Sunday School hall, was very well filled last evening, when a welcome social was tendered to the newly appointed Deaconess, Sister Betty. Sister Betty comes to Hawera. with a wide and varied experience, of her church’s activities, she having served for some considerable time in the Home Mission Field and social service; work. For the past three yeans, she has filled the position of Deaconess at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, P'on sonny, and the Hawera. Church is indeed fortunate in securing her to' assist in tho work of the local congregation. Several short addresses of welcome were given by representatives of the various organisations of the church. Several vocal items were given by the choir and its members.

During the evening the chairman (Rev. R.. E. Evans) .announced that the management committee had decided to purchase ,a .bicycle for the use of Sister Betty in her work. The ladies of the congregation provided supper in their usual liberal and efficient way, and tho singing of the Doxology brought a most enjoyable evening to ar close.
