DISTRUST OF BRITAIN.
STRONG FEELING IN FRANCE,
WAR' BERTS' THE CAUSE, Some interesting comment on the attitude of French people towards Britain was made by Dr. R, Lawson, Professor of Education at the Otago University, who has just returned to Dunedin after a six months' tour abroad. “I was sorry to find in. France a very strongly marked anti-British feeling," he said. “I would not say that it was universal, although it is very largely the outcome of the disputes that have taken place since the war over the settlement of war debts and the depreciation of the franc. For * some reason which I cannot explain the English and American people who live there and spend money are blamed. ‘ ‘Ex-soldiers were very friendly towards the Australian and New Zealand soldiers, but they carefully evaded mention of the English soldiers. As in England, I came into conversation with individuals who had a marked feeling
