RAILWAY STRIKE OVER
PRISONERS CARRIED AS HOSTAGE BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 1.30 p.m l . to-day. CAPETOWN, April 5. Vigorous military measures 'succeeded in. ending the railway, strike at Lorengo Marques, after four months duration. Prisoners, however, are still being carried as hostages for the safety of the trains and deportations ■continue. The strikers are being replaced by importations. The _ climax was reached 'when the commissioner of police, Dosousa, was riddled with bullets. He had dined at the Cardoza Hotel and, while he was walking to his head-quarters, two concealed men opened, fire and fourteen bullets pierced his body.—Sydney Sun Cable.
