MIDAS IN THE SLUMS.
IDENTITY REVEALED. RELIGIOUS-MINDED GERMAN. LONDON, March 25. The Evening News reveals the identity of the man who distributed money in the East End last month. He was Max Hyman, a German who went to Australia in 1906 and made a fortune. He had since lived for many years in Belgium. When he became convalescent after a serious illness ip 1925, he declared that God had told him to give away his wealth. Consequently his relatives kept him under surveillance until he disappeared. They then read the report of an unknown Midas buying two oranges _off a barrow in Petticoat Lane and giving the coster 20 £5 notes. The family solicitors are satisfied that the description of this donor tallies with that of Hyman, whom Scotland Yard has failed to trace. The mystery is deepened by the fact that he has long avoided, banks, from -which he could have drawn money freely.
