BRITISH RAILWAYS.
BIG EXPENDITURE PROPOSED. Four hundred new locomotives and 15 000 freight ears are included in the £10,000,000 scheme of renewals and improvements which have been authorised by the London, Midland and SeObtish Railway for this year. The work will give employment to many trades in the country and, besides providing plenty of employment in the company s own workshops, will benefit a number of private firms. . Three new steamers for the Irish cross-Channel service and a large number of passenger cars for the London suburban, electric services are to be built.
