IN THE CHURCHES.

1 EASTER SERVICES. In all tliec hurclies on Easter Sunday there were very large congregations, and the music and sermons were suited to the occasion. At St. Mary’s, Hawera, the congregation in the evening was so large that extra seating accommodation was necessary. The viear, Rev. H. W. Monaghan, preached a foreeful sermon on the Resurrection. At the communion st-rviees at 7, 8 and 11 a.m. there . was a large number of communicants. At St. Patea, all the services were well attended, the vicar, Rev. H. B. Goertz, preaching. In the evening there was a special musical service. The duet “Love Divinie,” from Stainer’s “Daughter of Jairus,” was very nicely sung by Miss W. Johnson and Mr Carey, and the chorus “Lift up your heads” from the Messiah was well siing by the choir. At the close of the service the Hallelujah Chorus was played by tlie organist. * At St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hawera, there were masses at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., and large congregations at each. The Very Rev. Mon-' signor Power preached an impressive sermon at each celebration. In the Presbyterian Church t-liere were special services for the Bible class girls now in camp, and sixty of them were present. The Rev. R E Evans preached on the subject of “Service” L nthe morning, and on the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the evening. At the Methodist Church there was a church parade of the boys from the Bible class camp now being held in the main school, a hundred attending- ? ev< -r}7' J- ox hr°w preached on v\ lute Fire, ’ impressing on them the need for zeal and enthusiasm in the cause of Bible study. All the other churches were also very well attended, and special services with music appropriate to Easter were held.
