A DISTURBING ANNOUNCEMENT
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT. LONDON, March 28.
The Daily Express says a racing sensation was threatened over the week-end in connection with king ot Clubs’ ,win in the Lincolnshire Handicap. Dawson, the trainer ol Zionist, which was second, posted an objection to the winner on the ground that a partnership in the horse between Bellerby and S. Owden was undisclosed. .. ,i l As settling day is Monday, the objection was a bombshell, affecting bets all the world over and totalling 000 000. Many bookmakers, who had already paid out on King of Clubs, would‘be obliged also to pav out over Zionist, while a popular double on Zionist and; Jack Horner, the winner of the Grand National, became operative. Fortunately, late on Sunday, Dawson cancelled the objection.

NAPIER, March 29. The following acceptances, have been declared for the Waipukurau meet-
HORSES FOR ELLER®LIE. Trainer O. Cox, with Reremoana and Lady Cavendish, has left for New Plymouth to take ship for the Auckland Easter meeting.
NOTES BY “MAECENAS.”
The jumpers Master Peter and Dubious will be runners at tlie rapa in view of fitting them for the early winter racing. With two-year-old races so easily won, Trainer 0. Cox was unlucky to lose the services of Lady Desmond, who had to be laid, aside owing to a cold. Although Martulla ran poorly at Rangitikei on Wednesday last, do not imagine she has no chance at the coming Feilding meeting. The Trentham-trained pair Tresliam and Modern will be runners at the Wairarapa meeting. Of the two, Modern may do better.
Owing to his infirm legs, Orchid is seldom galloped at -Trentham. He is nice and fresh and will race at the Feilding meeting. Being very handy to Trentham, and on account of the prize money rivalling that of the Feilding Jockey Club, timing . majority of Wellington-owned horses will be at the Wairarapa meeting on Saturday and Monday next.. With such a choice of meetings offerings some trainers have waited till the last possible moment before making a final choice. ' Trainer Sid Reid, with Grand Knight, Minotus, Note and Spode, leaves Wellington for Riccarton on Wednesday next. Reid is now lamenting that Grand Knight and Minotus were not entered for the;' Rangitikei meeting. fe Eaeh may be short of a gallop. Rosenor, who is engaged in the. Great Easter Handicap to be decided at Ric,carton on Easter Monday, is reported to be a great galloper. The three-year-old Toapaiti, recently trained by j. Wade, will in future be trained by J.~ Butler. Toapaiti lias shown very good form this season, but had to be laid aside owing to injuries to a shoulder.
The Wellington owner is anxious tli at Kilbronsyth should go to Ellerslie, and the son of Kilbroney has been worked with that object; but on Saturday last, when galloped, he hung out badly, although the gallop was a good one. After being galloped again this (Tuesday) morning, a final decision will be reached as to whether Kilbronsyth will race at Ellerslie or Tauherenikau. Ellerslie will be the most likely place. While there is a meeting held at their, own door, the Southern-owned and trained Sun Up and Tarleton have been sent north for the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting. On such performances as those registered by him in the Hazlett Memorial and the last Winter Cup (both run over mile courses), Sun Up (7.2) is remarkably well treated in the Easter/Handicap at Ellerslie.
While there is no racing in the Dominion until Saturday next, on the day there will be held race meetings by the following clubs: Auckland. Fending, Wairarapa, Tuapelta and Riverton. The Ilawera Trotting Club will also open its annual meeting on that day, and., judging by the splendid acceptances received, and the class of horses competing, the popular local club will have a great meeting. While numerically the Easter Handicap, to be decided at Ellerslie on Saturday next, is very strong, classically the Great Easter Handicap to be decided at Riccarton on Monday next may take more winning. Certainly:, Reremonna will strengthen the field at Ellerslie, and that great stayer Rapine wilf be a runner, but the southern club, which is offering only half the prize money, is lucky enough to secure great performers like* Grand Knight and Koval Divorce.
