ROBBERY ALLEGED,
AN EAST COAST AFFAIR
(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. I GISBORNE, March 29. About 11 o’clock on Saturday night, Albert Edward Orange, a saddler of Ruatorea, was called from his bed by a Maori who said he had a saddle to be repaired. He gave Orange the saddle and then said he had some more saddles around the corner. He ’went away and came back with two masked Maoris, one of whom was armed with a doublebarreled gun. The three natives rushed at Orange and violently assaulted him. When Orange recovered he found he had been robbed, and reported the occurrence to the police. Yesterday afternoon, Inspector Eecles and two constables went to Whenuakura pa and there arrested three natives on charges of assaulting and robbing Orange. A shot-gun and saddle are now in the hands of the police. Orange was badly- knocked about.
