BOWLING.

THE TARANAKI TEAM. (Auckland Herald). The test matches between the Taranaki bowlers and local representatives and also the games between the visitors and cluib teams last week were keenly cpnteoLed and were watched by large numbers of spectators. The visitors were strong in numbers, and they showed their talent by winning two of the three test matches. In tlic first test at Mount Eden they did not appear to get going properly, and although most of the games were fairly even, they were not able to obtain the deciding points and suffered defeat by a fair margin. In the- second game at Remuera the visitors found the greens more to their liking, and by reason of better all-round play, won easily by 40 points. . With the honours even, officials and players alike were on their mettle for the third test. The local selectors withheld their selection to- the last possible moment- in order to make sure that those selected were available. At this juncture it might be mentioned that con sided able difficulty was experienced in connection with the test -matches through, players dropping out and leavinrr places to. be filled at short notice. There has been such a feast of bowling lately that players are finding it difficult ‘to obtain leave oil week days. In any case, the Taranaki players are to be congratulated on their success Thev .expressed themselves as delighted with the trip and the way the centre executive and local bowlers entertained them. Mr A. Smart, who was the manager of the party, was one of the three members of the* Dominion Council at the smoke concert tendered to the visitors in the Auckland dub’s pavilion. Xu replying to the toast- of the Dominion bodv, the Taranaki representative emphasised the growth of the Dominion tournev- and ventured'the-opin-ion that in the near future it would become too cumbersome and difficulty would be found in providing green accommodation. . ~ , Perhaps this is the thin end of the wedge concerning a reversion to Nort h and South Island tournaments.
