NOTES ON THE RACING. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to the Star.) PALMERSTON N., March 25. The Rangitikei Racing Club was favoured with ideal climatic conditions for the concluding day of its annual meeting to-day, "which took place before a large attendance, but, like the majority of the meetings of late, the totalisator figures showed a decline. Of a. useful lot of hack hurdlers, Koauau was a slightly better favourite than Sottano for the Sanson Hurdles, with Blood Red the best supported of the other runners. When the held was despatched, Euchre and frizzier were the first to show out, and led over the initial jump. At the stand Euchre had a> useful lead over frizzier, which was followed by Blood Red, Asleep, and Banjukc. At the halfmile post Euchre still led from .frizzier, with Blood Red and Sottano as their closest attendants. At the last jump Euchre, Blood Red, Frizzier, and Sot.tano all had fighting chances, but Euchre jumped the best and went on to win easily from Blood Red, with Sottano a good third and Frizzier fourth.

The held for the Maiden Handicap was not a good one, and bettors made Croat Day a good fa-vouritc. with .Mister (lamp and Coma, next in demand When the tapes rose Mol to began smartly and led Croat Day and Coma over the first furlong. At the four, furlong post Mblto was just in front of Great Day and Killadie. Racing into the straight there was little between Great JDay, Takaroa, and Mister Gamp, but over the last furlong Great Day easily held his own .and Leal, iqilladlid by a Couple of lengths, with Takaroa a head away and .Mister Gamp fourth. fool's Paradise. Arelieen. and Rational was the order of favouritism for the Gre afford Handicap. From a good start Fool’s Paradise was the quickest to begin, leading Bright Day and Some Red over the first couple of furlongs. Some Red then went to the lead, but two furlongs from the post Arelieen ran through and had a useful lead at the straight entrance. Arelieen ran on well over the last lurking to win easily from Rational, which beat Fool’s Paradise in a good finish. Beaumont finished fast in fourth place.

Nothing but Demure was asked for in the Rangiotu Hack Handicap, she carrying over three times the amount invested on Starshell (second favourite). Tre harrier rose to an even start. Royal Elm heino- the first to show out, and he led Starshell and Horomea no the hack stretch. Racing to the straight. Royal Elm, Rbburite, Horomea, and Starshell were ranking in close formation, but over the last furlong Starshell drew out to win well

from Horomea, with Roburite third a length away. A really good field went out for tire Fraser Memorial, backers making The Lamb favourite, but Mand'ane, Novar, and Ngata each came' in for strong support. When the tapes lifted, Comedy Prince lost several lengths and Euphonium led from The Lamb, but going out of the straight Fillette raced to the lead, and up the back stretch Novar, Euphonium, The Lamb and Ngata were racing as written. At the home turn Novar was just in front of Euphonium, Glengarilf, and Ngata, but over the final stages Ngata ran on best to just beat Glengarilf. Nearing the post Novar got crushed out and Euphonium ran third. Catcall was heavily backed for the Ngaio Welter, Bonhomme, with a trifle over a third, of her total, being second favourite, while No Response and Rangi Sarto were best supported of the other starters. From the rising of the barrier Bonhomme began quickly and led Revel and Catcall out of the straight. Racing up the back stretch Bonhomme still led from Panart, Catcall, and Revel. Racing into the straight Bonhomme was just in front of a bunched division, and, capably handled by M. McCarten, won by half a length from Pail art, which only beat Catcall and Rangi Sarto. If we except Elthein, and possibly Miss Pat, the juveniles that contested the Nursery Handicap will never take a high place in the racing world. Elthein was well supported. Her rider allowed Miss Pat to lead into the straight, and in the run to the post Elthein had no trouble-in beating Miss Pat, with Waramau and Lady Faye following at intervals. 1 Racing concluded with the Farewell Hack Handicap, and in a good pool on the totalisator Royal Damon was the choice of bettors. Edenhall, Flying Shot, and Midnight Camp were next in order of favouritism. From a. good start. Flying Shot and Orcades were the quickest out. Then Ohui led them .for a brief period, but at the home turn Orcades and Flying Shot were in front, but, running wide, thejyi allowed Etoyai Damon to get through. Just- as the latter appeared a winner, Royal Land dashed up to beat him by a head, with the unlucky Edenhall third.
