SINGAPORE BASE.
AGAIN DISCUSSED IN. COMMONS. by cable-press association-copyright. LONDON, March 22. In the House of Commons, during the debate on the Navy Estimates, Mr C. A. Ammon (Labour) asked why the floating dock at Singapore was being completed before the graving dock as was at first intended, and rvhy was use not being made of the old German dock.
Cojnmander C. D. Burney (Conservative) asked, in view of the Imperial Conference, was it not possible for the Labour Party to reach an agreement with the Ministry on Singapore, so that the Dominion representatives would realise that, even with a. change of Government, their defence would be safeguarded. Commander J. M. Kenworthy (Liberal) urged that it was not too late for the Admiralty to reconsider its policy and base the defence of the Pacific on Sydney instead of Singapore. The Rt. Hon. W. C. Bridgcman, First Lord of the Admiralty, explained, that it was easier to (send out the new floating dock in sections to Singapore' than to tow the old German dock.
