DRAW FOR DAVIS CUP MATCHES

Canada’s opening game in the Davis Cup elimination rounds will be against Cuba.

Air. Frank Kellogg, Secretary of State, drew the numbers front a bowl to-day. The dates for the individual matches will be arranged by agreement between the two countries contesting in each series.

The pairing for Argentina in the. draw in the European zone will be with Hungary. Other European pairing is Spain with Ireland, Great Britain with Poland, Roumiania with Italy, Holland with Belgium, -South Africa 'with Portugal, Sweden with Switzerland,' Fiance with Denmark, and India with Czecho-Slevakia. Austria drew the Ibye, and will meet the winner of the South Africa—Portugal series. In the American zone, Philippines meet the winner of the Japan—Mexico matches. Th© drawing arrangements place Roumania, Italy, Holland, Belgium, South Africa, and Portugal in the first round and the others in the second round. The- matches will determine, the- nation to challenge the United States, the Davis Cup defenders. The contest will be decided at Philadelphia in September.

SOUTH TARANAKI v. WANGANUI. TO-MORROW’S GAME AT WANGANUI. A team representing South Taranaki will travel to Wanganui to-morrow morning and play against a Wanganui team. Unfortunately several leading district players could not got away and the team from here will not be so strong as could have been wished. They needed their very best, for Wanganui is always a strong combination. It will, however, be a most interesting match, and will provide good experience for the Taranaki players. PARK v. MEREMERE.

The team to represent the Park Club in its match wi/th Meremerc at Meremere on Saturday has been selected as under:—Mesdames Billows, Jones, Faliowes, Goodwin, Dymond, and Miss Kirk; Messrs Newton, Winfield, Whyteross, Thompson, Crutch and. Brown. Cars will leave the post office at .1 p.m. sharp.
