After the conclusion of the- girls' swimming sports yesterday afternoon, the Hawera High Schoo! cadets’ camip was declared open for visitors. A o-uard was stationed at the gateway and the cadets were in turn given a period of sentry-go. A number of parents took the opportunity -of visiting the camp and were keenly interested in the neatness displayed. An earthquake of brief duration was experienced in Hawera and the surrounding district at about 1.30 this morning, hut from inquiries made it appears that only the lightest of sleepers were disturbed by what to .many was a barely perceptible tremor.
