RIVERLEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TENNIS CLUB. V special meeting of the local tennis club was held in the hall on Tuesday evening, when there was a good attendance, the chair being taken by the president, Mr. A. E. Mills. The matter of rules in connection with the games for the trophy presented by ilr. A. P. Gargan was discussed, and it was finally resolved to set up a committee consisting or Messrs Mills and M. Malone and Miss BLooker to arrange same. As matches had been arranged to be held with the Ivapong Club and the Jvaponga Convent Club, it was resolved to set up a .selection committee, and Messrs A. E. Mills, M. Malone, and ,J. Gibson were appointed. The matter of holding the annual ball was gone into, but was left in abeyance pending a conference with the hall committee re a suitable date
The final statement of accounts in connection with the laying down of the court showed the cost to have been £9O. The president, Mr. Mills, tendered his resignation, as he would he leaving the district at the end ol the month. Members expressed deep regret at Mr. Mills’s departure, and it was resolved to accept the resignation with regret and appoint Mr. Mills a life member of the club. Mr. B. L. Webby was elected president, resigning the position of secretary, and Mr. E. Hooper was elected, secretary in his place. GENERAL.
The weather since the beginning of the month has been almost perfect, and good autumn growth is the result, with a consequent steady holding up of the milk supply. The factory, which made a steady thirty-nine cheeses per day throughout February, still is making thirtv-seven per day. By the way. in my last notes “39 cheese per diem” was printed 99. It was either my rotten writing or a printer’s error. The tests at the last testing ranged from 3.7 to 5.2 and are rising steadily A team from the local tennis club visited Kaponga last Saturday to try conclusions with the town club there The Riverlea players succeeded in scoring a victory in their initial effort, to the great astonishment of themselves and the even greater surprise of the Kaponga team. A return match is to be plaved here on Saturday. The dance held in the hall on Friday last proved very successful.... despite the inclement weather conditions, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The farewell to Mr. A. E. Mills, which bad been arranged' to be held on the 26th inst., has been postponed till the 30th, owing to the former date clashing with the Auroa. Tennis Club’s Ball. PERSONAL. Mrs. J. P- Gibson and Miss O’Neid returned from Dunedin about ten days ago and report a most enjoyable time, though the weather in the southern city was dull and cold all the time they were there. They had an excellent passage both to and from Lyttelton, especially the return trip. ~Vfr and Mrs. I>. Gihsort mid party returned from New Plymouth last week, and Mr. W. Hey from Dunedin on Saturday evening.
