MAORI HEALER RATANA.
VISIT TO HAWKE’S BAY. A NUMBER OF CURES CLAIMED. Mr Peter Moko, who recently returned with Ratana from a gathering at Ornahu, Hastings, attended by 3700 Maoris, states that some wonderful cures took place, Ratana being mediator. Asked to specify some of them, Mr Moko stated that a woman who had been blind for ten years was made to see. Two “cases” were brought from n hospital, one a boy who was not expected to live more than a few days, and, after an earnest appeal by Ratana that his young life should be spared, tlie boy got up from a sick bed, and before many hours was restored to normal health. The other was an infantilcparalysis case, where it was claimed that a complete cure took place. The patient, before being brought before Ratana, was a complete cripple, unable to walk. The next, important cure was that of a Maori woman who had not been able to sleep for months owing to nervous trouble. The evening after her “healing” she enjoyed perfect rest, and the next morning was about, fresh and vigorous.
