DUTY ON BUTTER.

INCREASED .BY CANADA. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COP YRIGHT. OTTAWA, March 12. Mr Boivin, Minister of Customs anil Excise, announced to-day that “shipments of butter from Australia within the last few days had been accepted, upon the payment of a duty of four cents per pound. This duty represents one eent per pound under the Australian treaty and a further duty of three cents under the dumping clause.’’ The Minister stated that - the extra duty under the dumping clause was being levied pending an investigation to determine whether the home consumption and the price of butter in Australia was in excess of five per eent. over the price of Australian butter sold in Canada.
