NORMANBY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
HIGHLAND DANCING. At the Nonnanby Horticultural Show yesterday afternoon there was a large attendance of the public. The Highland dancing events created a great deal of interest. The efforts of the ladies’ refreshment committee under the supervision of Mrs S. P. Franklyn were much appreciated by the committee of the society, which give the ladies credit for saving the society a great deal of money. The work of preparing luncheons and afternoon teas is quite an arduous one, and the ladeis are to be congratulated on the result of their efforts, which were stated to he very satisfactory. The commtitee comprised the following: Mesdames Edwards, Paine, Streeter. Ballaiitine. Tippett, Hoperoft. Coxhead. Archhold and Franklyn ('supervisor’). Misses Tippett, Coxhead (2). Hallantine, Coad. Antrobus and Franklyn. The Indies were assisted hy Mr Howe-Giles. The Highland dancing competitions were concluded. Pipe-Major Mackenzie supplied the music for these classes. Results were as follows: Sailors’ hornpipe.—Dorothy Gower 1, Eileen Williams 2. Irish jig.—Dorothy Gower 1, Eileen Williams and Miss Kirk (equal) 2. Sword dance. —Dorothy Gower 1. Eileen "Williams 2. Due to an error in the judge’s hook for the poultry section, Mr Cnrrick was credited with receiving second prize in the Indian Runner drake class. Mr .T. Meuli was placed secopd.
