AMBULANCE ’PLANE.
USED IN AY.A. CASE
PECULIAR' ACCIDENT.
SYDNEY, Feb. 26
A meritorious, though futile attempt to save the life of a man injured .in an amazing, incident outback in West Australia' was made on Thursday, when an areoplane was utilised to convey the victim 100 miles to the hospital. The man, a station employee, was proceeding to a job on a motor truck. He threw out a long-handled shovel, and then jumped off the truck while it was moving. Unfortunately for him, the shovel stuck upright in the ground, and the man tripped and fell on it, receiving severe interna' injuries. He was admitted to Port Headland Hospital, but, as he was in a dangerous condition, the doctor thought it best that he should be removed to Roeburne Hospital, where better facilities were available for conducting an operation .
The West Australia’s airway’s depot at Roebume was .informed, and Pilot Vigers flew out specially to convey the injured man to the. hospital. The patient was placed in the plane, accompanied by the matron of the. hospital, who found it necessary to administer injections during the trip. The' machine left Port Hedland at 3.25 p.in., and landed at Roeburne at 4.40 p.m., having covered' 100 miles in 75 minutes. Every attention was shown the sufferer, but despite medical aid lie died next morning.
