ELECTION PETITION.
TO-DAY’S EVIDENCE. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GREYMOUTH, March 9. The hearing of the election petition was continued to-day, when there was another large, attendance of the public. James O’Regan, deputy returning officer at the landing booth, Buller, gav© evidence that H. M. Parker, claiming to he on the "Westland roll, asked for voting papers. Witness had no absentee voters’ forms left, and advised Parker to try a booth four miles away. Parker gave evidence that he did not vote anywhere. Mr Joyce (petitioner’s solicitor) said that the delay in forwarding the ballot papers bv the deputy returning officer might have laid them open to be tampered with. . The court declared that something more definite was necessary. Mr Hanan opened respondent’s case, and subsequently abandoned several claims. , . . Various witnesses gave evidence of residence in the constituency. The hearing is proceeding.
