SLAUGHTER OF CATTLE.

WAR ON TUBERCULOSIS. BIG DRIVE IN CANADA. VANCOUVER. Feb. 10. A nation-wide slaughter of cattle in Canada to weed out those affected by tuberculosis will be commenced next week. British Columbia will be the first province treated. Other provinces will be treated in geographical turn. Federal experts, arriving to undertake this work say it is expected that British Columbia will be completed by the spring. Fraser Valley, the chief dairying district of British Columbia, and one of the most prolific in Canada, has been declared an anti-tuberculosis district by the Federal Government, at the instance of the Minister of Agriculture. Drastic regulations have been framed to make the “drive” effective. No cattle mav be brought into the district during the currency of the “declaration.’'’ All cattle will be tested twice a month, and, if found affected, will be slaughtered. Compensation to farmers for loss of animals is provided by Federal statute. While the process of testing is proceeding. farmers will not be permitted to move their cattle from tested holdings to land where cattle have not been tested. This policy will, it is stated, be rigorously observed right across the country.
