MATAPU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WEDDING. A pretty and popular wedding took place at the local Union Church last week, when Margaret,' second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Keighley, Matapu, was married to Carrol, sixth son of Mrs. and the late Mr. J. Rogers, Midhirst. The church was prettily decorated by friends of the bride, and the Rev. Mr. Isaacson, of Eltham, officiated. The bride, who entered on the arm of her father, wore a pretty dress of ivory crepe-de-chine and radium lace, and carried the usual bouquet. The bridesmaids were Misses J. and S. Keighley, sisters of the bride, while Misses E. and T. Keighley, cousins of the bride, were flower girls. The bridegroom was attended by his brothers Frank, as best man, and Roy, as groomsman. There were 120 guests at the wedding breakfast, held at the home of the bride’s parents, and after the usual toast list was honoured the happy couple-left for Wanganui for the honeymoon. In the evening Mr. and Mrs. Keighley gave a dance to celebrate the event, and about eighty guests spent a most enjoyable time until the early hours- of the morning. “TIN-CANNING” A large and enthusiastic. party of “ tin-canners ” visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. K. Sharpe, Hastings Road, on a recent evening, to welcome them back from their honeymoon. After the benzine tin solo had been effectively rendered, the party was invited inside and all were most hospitably entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Sharpe. At midnight Mr. B, Cole thanked Mr. and Mrs. Sharpe on behalf of the visitors for the splendid way in which they had . been entertained. Messrs. L. C. Jurd and J. Naughton heartily endorsed the speaker’s remarks. Mr. Sharpe, in reply, said that it had been a great pleasure for Mrs. Sharpe and himself to entertain the visitors, and they both, greatly appreciated Mr. Cole’s remarks. Proceedings terminated with the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” and “Auld Lang Svne.” GENERAL. Miss J. Musker, additional teacher for Matapu, took up her duties here last Monday. '..* ; .vV The Matapu School picnic was held at the Te Ngutu Domain last. Rriday, when a large number of parents and kiddies spent an enjoyable day. The final? meeting of the combined committees for the English Fair next Friday was held in the hall last night, when Mr. Ralph Hooker, chairman, presided over a large attendance.
