LONDON, Jan. 7. During the year ending December 31, 1.925, tlie Aligration Department in London approved of 9752 assisted settlers for the Dominion, and shipped 8496. In the last six months ,of the year, under a new agreement, which provided for lower fares, 5790 were shipped. Owing to the shipping strike, the Waimana, the Athenie and theTainui were not available during December, otherwise an additional 1400 settlers would have gone out to New Zealand, thus bringing the number nearly im to the quota of 10,000. Approva's during the latter part 6f the year averaged nearly 1000 per month; August 1073, September 1015, October 979, November 967, and December 857. An effort is being made by the Department to make up for the deficiency in the shipments caused by the .strike. By the Tainui, which sails to-morrow, the number of assisted settlers embarking is 250; by the Athenic. which sails on" January 29, there will be between 350 and 400; bv the Waimana oil February 4 there will be 800; the Rotorua, on February 12, wil> take 250; the Corinthic. February 26, 350; the Remuera, Alarch 12, 300; the lonic, March 26. 400; Suffolk. Alarch 27, 380; and the R i m.u talc a., sailing some time in Alarch. 280. It is anticipated that the Hororata will he sailing on February 25. and would take 850 passengers. The vessel has been delayed, however, and it is probalde it will he late in sailing. If the Hororata gets away during March over 4200 assisted settlers will have embarked during the first three months of the present year, thus making up for the deficiency of last year and keeping the average for this year up to the 10,000 a year level.
