ELTHAM.

SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL. The Eltham Soldiers’ Memorial Committee met last evening. Those present were: Mr I. J. Bridger (chainman), Mesdames Hawken and Birket, Messrs Bary (secretary), Rickets, Kemp and Young. The chairman reported that the contractor was making good progress with tlie erection of the memorial gates and that the class of work appeared excellent-. He had .received £220 by way of progress payments. .Unfortunately,; the securing of the names to be inscribed on the tablets was a very great difficulty, and was taking considerably longer than was anticipated. So far about 220 names had been secured. It was decided to send the whole- list to tlie- Records' ;Office for verification before the names are sent to the contractor. On the motion of Messrs Rickets and Young, it was decided to finish the approach to the gates in concrete slabs.
