Y. W. C. A.
ANNUAL CONVENTION
SEPARATE NEW ZEALAND ORGASN-
18 ATI ON
(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, March 2. At the Y.W.O.A. Convention, being held at Warrington, the budget for the year was discussed. Stress was laid on all sides on the need for a national gills’ work secretary for New Zealarid, now that a. break has been made with Australia. Though the need for this work was strongly felt, the convention thought that the new organisation required a general administrator first, and that the appointment of the general secretary should take precedence over an appointment for girls’ work. The need for consolidation and development in the Girl Citizens’ movement was so keenly felt that a budget for the first year’s national work was adopted, this provides for both a general secretary and a girls’ work secretary. New Zealand was contributing £425 to the national work while linked with the Australian movement, but it was considered that the benefit the New Zealand Association would receive from such a headquarters organisation would fully justify the extra responsibility. The headquarters of the Y.W.C.A. are to be established in Wellington. Some delegates wished for moveable headquarters, others felt that no change should be made from Christchurch, but a majority decided for Wellington. The name given to the administrative body is to be the National Board.
