DENGUE FEVER
FEARS IN AUSTRALIA
TROPICAL AND SUB-TROPICAL ONLY.
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY. March 1.
The recent prevalence of dengue fever has caused some consternation, and raised the question of its spreading to other parts of the Commonwealth and elsewhere.
Medical opinion mostly negatives fears of the disease taking hold outside tropical and sub-tropical areas. The type of mosquito responsible for dengue is not located south of Newcastle, though other more common types have been exceptionally prevalent and troublesome during the present year, and are almost a scourge in many districts.
Tn the ladies’ swimming championships on Saturday the Queensland representative, who recently suffered from dengue, collapsed after' 150 yards and had to retire.
