TWO WATERSIDERS GET GAOL,

TWENTY POUNDS OF TOBACCO RECOVERED.

(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 25.

Walter Dange and John Essex Deavereaux, watersiders, were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment in the Magistrate's Court to-day on ai charge of theft of twenty pounds of tobacco, part of the cargo' of the steamer Manuka .

The tobacco was found by a detective, but accused said they intended to hand it to the watchman. “fl am afraid their .story won’t do,” said Mr. Page, S.M. “It seems clear to me that this cargo was pillaged by these men, or by some other, men in concert with them.”
