After a battle against thja destructive forces of nature, probably unequalled in the history of bridge-building in the Dominion, the Rotokautuku Bridge, the largest on the East Coast, was declared open by the Prime Minister. Four unsuccessful attempts were made before the "Waipu was bridged, and the present structure cost between £20,000 and i £25,000. v. .
