SCHOOL EXCURSION

Instead of the annual picnic, the Waverley School Committee contemplate giving the children a. special treat by running an excursion to the beautiful Ngaere Gardens. The special train for this trip' will cost approximately £45 and at present the committee is> busy ascertaining what patronage the venture is likely to ieeeive. From all accounts, pa,rents and children are keenly looking forward to the excursion, which, if held, will be early next month, March 3 being the suggested date. Return fares for the trip will probably be: Adults 4s fxl, senior scholars 2s 3d, juniors Is 6d, Anybody desirous of making the trip, who have no children attending the local schools, should communicate with the secretary of the school committee. In the event of the excursions being arranged, the business people of Waverley have decided to close their premises for the day. SWIMMING CLUB. It has been decided* to hold an evening swimming carnival on Thursday, February 25, commencing at, 6.15 p.m. The committee has also decided to hold a street stall on March 19, and meanwhile will canvass for produce, etc., for MEMORIAL. The memorial committee has decided to accept the tender of Messrs "Walpole and Patterson! for the work of erecting the memorial fence, the price being £lO5. It was reported that the name of F. Johnstone, Ngutuwera, had to be added to the tablet. It was resolved that the R..S.A. be approached and the help of this organisation sought- with al view to financing the fencing work. Messrs F. Johnston and Adlam were appointed a committee to wait upon the R.S. A. in relation to the matter. It was resolved that a- deputation wait upon the Postal Department in order to obtan permission to remove such trees from the site as is deemed necessary.
