LEAGUE COUNCIL DISPUTE.
FRENCH PRESS INSISTENT. ONE GOOD WORD FOR BRITAIN. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Feb. 20, 12.30 p.m. PARIS, Feb. 19. Amid a chorus of the French Press demanding Poland’s admission io the League Council, Le Gaulois finds Sir Austen Chamberlain’s statement concerning the League yesterday “wise, fair and courageous.” It points out that the viewpoint of each of the Powers must be examined, in order to see to what extent they are mutually reconcilable. Le Matin refers to the circulation of various false rumours about the hostility of Japan and Sweden, and the stubborn opposition of Britain to the enlargement of the League Council. It gays: "Actually no Government has so far declared against Poland, whose chances of admission to the Councu—and likewise Spain’s—are exce.'.entj while Brazil’s chances are increasing. —Reuter.
